The Marriott Residence Inn Laval Hotel Rewarded For Its Eco-responsibility

The only hotel in Laval to have received this certification highlighting its environmentally friendly practices, the Mariott Residence Inn Laval has received a 4 Clés Vertes mention from the Association Hôtellerie Québec (AHQ).

Green Key is an internationally recognized environmental certification designed for tourism establishments wishing to reduce their environmental footprint. 5 Green Keys is the highest level of certification.

The results of the 4th audited version of the Green Key program have just been revealed.

To date, more than 50 tourist accommodation establishments across Quebec are officially certified, including all Fairmont hotels, the Sofitel Montréal, and the Centre Sheraton Montréal. About 30 others are also in the process of obtaining certification.

The Mariott Residence Inn Laval, which reopened in June 2023 under the Mariott banner, received this distinction for the first time.

“In preparation for this reopening, the hotel was completely renovated in line with Mariott’s guidelines, whose brand we adopted. Many of these measures were already leading us toward greater eco-responsibility. We integrated LED lighting, electric vehicle charging stations, and recycling bins in the rooms,” reported Linda Taub, general manager of the Mariott Residence Inn Laval.

Reusable tableware is used throughout the restaurants and in rooms with kitchenettes, soaps and shampoos are provided in refillable containers instead of disposable sample sizes, and suppliers are chosen based on their environmental responsibility, Taub continues.

“It doesn’t cost more to be careful; the costs are the same doing it this way. It’s the commitment that takes time, since we meet every quarter to brainstorm solutions. We also have to fill out logs for gas and electricity usage. Producing this report allows us to measure our actions and see the results,” says Linda Taub.

Véronique Tremblay, President and CEO of the Quebec Hotel Association (AHQ), emphasizes the commitment of the award-winning establishments. “You don’t become a 5 Clés Vertes overnight. This distinction is based on long-term work, a deep commitment to transformation, and constant rigor in management practices.”

The Mariott Residence Inn Laval is continuing its efforts to become more environmentally responsible. “Eventually, we’re talking about a composting program in the city. The kitchen team will be very involved, both in the restaurants and in the suites equipped with kitchenettes,” announces Linda Taub.
